Phase Two: Expanding the Impact of Aus4Innovation

In 2023, the Aus4Innovation program moved into Phase Two with a stronger emphasis on resilient agriculture and food, and responsible digital transformation. This phase prioritises the “directionality” of innovation, meaning that innovation not only drives economic outcomes but also promotes environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

The robust tripartite partnership among the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) – Australia’s national science agency (CSIRO) – Ministry of Science and Technology (MST) remains the cornerstone of the Aus4Innovation program, particularly in light of the 50th anniversary of Australia – Vietnam diplomatic relations in 2023, and the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in 2024.

Phase One: Establishing the Collaboration in Science, Technology, and Innovation

Announced in 2018, Aus4Innovation was designed to support Australia and Vietnam to jointly explore emerging areas of technology and digital transformation.  Phase 1 helped trial new models for partnerships among key actors in the innovation system, and strengthen Vietnamese capability in digital foresight, scenario planning, commercialisation, and innovation policy.

Aus4Innovation is funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, co-funded and managed by CSIRO – Australia’s national science agency and delivered in strategic partnership with Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology.
